Legal Pupil (Trainee Advocate) – Full‑time, Kitale

About the role

The firm is seeking a full‑time Legal Pupil to work on‑site in Kitale. Under the supervision of experienced advocates, you will gain practical exposure to both contentious and non‑contentious matters across a range of practice areas.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and analyse statutes, case law and regulations.
• Draft pleadings, contracts, legal opinions, correspondence and other court documents.
• Assist in preparing case files, managing documentation and updating hearing schedules.
• Attend court hearings and tribunals, take notes and support advocates during proceedings.
• Liaise with clients and external stakeholders under supervision.
• Perform administrative duties related to case management and participate in internal trainings and meetings.

Required profile

• LL.B degree from a recognised institution and enrolment in or completion of the Advocates Training Programme (or equivalent bar training).
• Strong research and analytical abilities with attention to detail.
• High level of integrity, professional ethics and confidentiality.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple files, meet deadlines and work efficiently in a busy practice.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience with document‑management systems.
• Use of online legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw).
