Mechanical Technician

About the role

Q-Sourcing Limited, trading as Q-Sourcing Servtec, a manpower management firm operating across East Africa, is recruiting a skilled and experienced Mechanical Technician to work in Kisii, Kenya on behalf of its client. The main purpose of the job is to carry out planned and routine preventive maintenance on machines and equipment and run diagnostic tests so that downtime is kept to a minimum.

Key responsibilities

• Update the preventive maintenance checklist and analyse machine running hours, greasing, oil levels, temperatures, foundation bolt tightness, cleanliness and safety.
• Respond quickly to breakdown notifications from operators and check for abnormal sounds, temperature and vibration.
• Ensure maintenance schedules are met on time, within budget and to the required quality and safety standards.
• Track spare parts and tool inventory and escalate re-orders.
• Follow and update the preventive maintenance schedule.
• Ensure PPE is used correctly and that tools and equipment are safe to use in the plant.
• Modify machines after installation to improve performance, and carry out welding and fabrication to fix leaks during installation of new machines or pipelines.
• Prepare daily reports on machine conditions, breakdowns and repairs, and shift handover reports.
• Carry out any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 3 years of experience in manufacturing maintenance.
• Production experience and ability to follow work instructions.
• Fluent in Swahili and English, with good listening, communication and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Welding with a good finish and basic problem-solving.
• Mechanical and safety knowledge.
• Creative, flexible, detail-oriented and able to work under pressure.
