About the role
The Pain and Palliative Care Specialist will work under the Head of Department to deliver specialised diagnostic, curative, rehabilitative and preventive health services to patients requiring pain and palliative management. The role focuses on ensuring high‑quality, patient‑centred care within Kenyatta National Hospital.
Key responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive pain assessment, management and palliative care to in‑patients and out‑patients.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in line with best practice guidelines.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate curative and supportive therapies.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and report outcomes to the Head of Department.
- Uphold quality and safety standards, including infection control and patient confidentiality.
Required profile
- Master of Science in Palliative Care recognised by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), OR Master of Medicine in Family Medicine or Anaesthesia with a subspecialty in Palliative Care or Pain Management recognised by KMPDC.
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognised institution.
- Current registration and specialist recognition as a Pain and Palliative Physician with KMPDC.
- Valid practising licence for Pain and Palliative Specialisation.
- Professional indemnity cover.
- Physicians with an interest in pain and palliative care who have completed MMed and are undergoing pre‑registration attachment are also encouraged to apply.
