Phlebotomy Consultant - LOSHAK Study

About the role

Aga Khan University Hospital is recruiting a consultant phlebotomist to support data collection for the LOSHAK study. The role involves conducting household interviews and collecting and processing venous blood samples across the counties of Kakamega, Kirinyaga, Kisumu, Kitui, Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru and Wajir.

Key responsibilities

• Attend and complete the required training and pass the certification.
• Collect venous blood samples and other health measures according to the study SOPs.
• Ensure sample quality during temporary storage at local labs and transport, following the SOPs.
• Follow the study protocols and ethical standards for venous blood drawing.
• Keep equipment and consumables safe and return them to AKU at the end of the data collection period.
• Revisit respondents for validation and back-checking as needed.
• Take part in regular debrief meetings and document a daily summary report for the supervisor.
• Manage situations within your control and escalate others to the field supervisor; avoid any conflict of interest.
• Protect the confidentiality of project information and participant data in line with the Data Protection Act, 2019.

Required profile

• Diploma in laboratory science, nursing or clinical medicine.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience.
• Fluency in English, Kiswahili and a local dialect.
• Previous experience in surveys and field work, including national surveys led by KNBS.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, culturally adaptable and sensitive.
