PLC/DLC Boiler Operator

About the role

Career Directions Limited is hiring 10 PLC/DLC Boiler Operators in Kiambu County, Kenya, within its Engineering department. The role reports to the Supervisor and is open only to Kenyan nationals. The operator runs and maintains PLC/DLC-controlled boilers of about 20 TPH capacity connected to a turbine, ensuring safe, reliable steam supply for continuous plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate low and high pressure boilers, including starting and shutting them down, and monitor them under varying load requirements.
• Take visual checks, read gauges and record pressure and temperature readings.
• Inspect pipes, valves, pumps and safety devices for leaks and malfunctions, and periodically adjust control mechanisms.
• Blow down the boiler when impurities exceed limits and test high and low pressure safety controls.
• Supervise daily maintenance such as oiling and greasing of stokers, fans, motors, valves, pressure switches and safety valves.
• Follow fire and safety precautions, and cooperate with state and other inspectors.
• Handle water chemistry: add chemicals, maintain chemical balance, and run conductivity, alkalinity, phosphate, silica, sulphate and hardness tests.
• Order gas and oil deliveries, and keep records of treatment chemicals, oil and gas consumption, TDS, PPM, pH and steam/hot water production.
• Perform general maintenance and emergency repairs where skilled, and act on safety-related emergencies.

Required profile

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Plant or Production option).
• Minimum 4 years' experience operating and maintaining PLC/DLC-controlled boilers.
• Experience with boilers of about 20 TPH capacity and with boilers connected to a turbine.
