Principal Legal Officer

About the role

The Principal Legal Officer will support legal matters related to the functions, structures and activities of the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority, reporting to the Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Services.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the legal services function and develop legal policies and procedures.
• Provide legal risk reviews, advice on risk mitigation and manage litigation with external counsel.
• Draft, vet and negotiate contracts, formal agreements and other legal instruments.
• Conduct legal research, prepare opinions and memoranda, and initiate legislative amendments.
• Assist the Corporation Secretary with board secretarial services.

Required profile

• Minimum eight (8) years of relevant legal experience, including three (3) years in a supervisory role.
• LLB and LLM degrees or equivalent, plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Laws from the Council of Legal Education.
• Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing, Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate.
• Completed a management course of at least four weeks from a recognized institution.
• Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

Required skills

• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Management training (minimum four‑week course).
