Program Officer

About the role

The Program Officer will lead the planning, coordination and monitoring of inclusive eye, ear and hearing care activities across community, school and health facility settings. This role ensures that project interventions are delivered in line with donor requirements, safeguarding standards and inclusive programming principles.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate community, school and facility‑based eye and ear screening, treatment and referral processes.
• Organise project implementation review meetings, technical working groups, monitoring visits and data audits.
• Prepare payment requisitions and ensure documentation complies with donor and Tenwek Hospital policies.
• Lead the planning and delivery of trainings and stakeholder engagement, including persons with disabilities.
• Support safeguarding, risk management and documentation of best practices and human‑interest stories.
• Collaborate with the M&E Officer on work plans, budget projections and resource mobilisation.
• Coordinate travel, logistics and other operational support for the project team.

Required profile

• Degree in Social Sciences, Public Health or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years experience managing donor‑funded inclusive eye, ear and hearing care projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation and presentation abilities.
• Willingness to work extensively in the field and travel to implementation sites.
• Good understanding of inclusive programming, disability inclusion, safeguarding and protection principles.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with project and data management systems.
