Psychiatric Nurse

About the role

The Emmanuel Treatment and Resource Center Limited is hiring a Psychiatric Nurse (mental health nurse) in Nairobi. The nurse provides direct patient mental health care based on the orders of a doctor or nurse practitioner, balancing the treatment of several patients at once.

Key responsibilities

• Follow doctors' orders and treatment plans
• Administer medications and monitor patients' responses to them
• Conduct screenings and evaluations and monitor patients
• Educate patients and their family members
• Collaborate with other medical professionals and communicate with other care team members
• Document treatments, medications and other patient care in medical records
• Respond to emergency psychiatric situations

Required profile

• Preference given to a Certificate in Enrolled Community Health Nursing with psychiatry; a license is required
• Experience in a mental hospital or rehabilitation setting
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Must be clean and sober

Required skills

• Professional interaction in individual and group counseling settings
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Teamwork and ability to implement team-based approaches
