Real Estate Accountant (Part‑time Remote Contractor)

About the role

We are seeking a part‑time Real Estate Accountant to support the financial operations of a family‑owned real‑estate portfolio across multiple U.S. states. Working remotely, you will handle complex bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial reporting for a growing set of properties.

Key responsibilities

• Perform monthly reconciliations of bank statements, general ledgers, and accounts payable/receivable.
• Oversee the in‑house bookkeeper, review aging reports, and approve payments above set thresholds.
• Generate property‑level profit & loss, cash‑flow, and balance‑sheet reports each month.
• Analyze variances against budgets and provide clear explanations for deviations.
• Apply real‑estate specific accounting practices, including security deposits, capital improvements, and depreciation.
• Process payroll securely and assist with annual 1099 filings.
• Identify workflow improvements and help develop new accounting procedures.

Required profile

• Experience in real‑estate accounting or property management finance.
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Familiarity with payroll processing and 1099 compliance.
• Detail‑oriented with the ability to spot and resolve discrepancies.
