Regional Protection Officer (P)

About the role

The Regional Protection Officer (P) will work within the Migrant Protection Unit of IOM’s Regional Office for East Horn and Southern Africa. The role provides thematic oversight and technical support for protection, return and reintegration programmes across the region, ensuring that beneficiaries receive safe, dignified assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance and oversight for protection, assisted voluntary return and reintegration activities.
• Coordinate protection screening, counselling and travel arrangements for eligible migrants.
• Collaborate with IOM headquarters, country offices and external partners to design and implement protection interventions.
• Monitor programme implementation, ensure compliance with IOM policies and UN migration standards.
• Prepare reports, analyses and recommendations for senior management and donors.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in migration protection, humanitarian assistance, or related fields.
• Strong knowledge of UN migration frameworks and protection principles.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including governments, NGOs and UN agencies.
• Excellent communication and reporting skills.
• Commitment to IOM’s values of inclusivity, respect and professionalism.
