Senior Gender Scientist

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking a Senior Gender Scientist to provide scientific leadership on gender‑related research within its forest governance programmes. The role combines high‑level research design, interdisciplinary collaboration, and capacity‑building across multiple regions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and disseminate peer‑reviewed publications and other scientific communications.
• Lead project capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists, students, and staff.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders and donors.
• Identify and secure additional funding for relevant research areas.
• Plan, monitor, and report on research activities, including financial management and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., social science, natural resource management).
• Extensive experience in collaborative natural resource management or social‑science research.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects across regions and continents.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Demonstrated success in resource mobilisation, fundraising, and proposal development.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) a plus.
• Experience working with multiple partners and multidisciplinary teams in developing countries.
