Sustainable Finance Strategy Director

About the role

Systemiq is seeking an experienced Director to lead and grow its Sustainable Finance practice across sub‑Saharan Africa, based in Nairobi. You will work closely with the Sustainable Finance Partner and Kenya Country Lead to deliver complex advisory engagements, develop client relationships and shape regional growth.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across the regional portfolio, shaping priorities and ensuring quality and coherence.
• Lead complex consulting engagements from problem definition through client delivery and implementation planning.
• Build and manage trusted relationships with senior government officials, ministries of finance, central banks, development finance institutions and investors.
• Translate policy and financing challenges into actionable strategies that mobilise investment for sustainable economic development.
• Drive business development by identifying opportunities, developing proposals and winning new engagements.
• Collaborate with global colleagues across finance, energy, nature, food systems and materials to address interconnected challenges.
• Manage multidisciplinary consulting teams, providing strategic direction, mentorship and developing local talent.
• Strengthen Systemiq’s regional presence by building partnerships with African institutions and representing the firm in regional networks.
• Oversee project budgets, resources, delivery risks and financial performance to ensure commercial excellence.

Required profile

• Typically 10+ years of experience in management consulting, strategy advisory or a comparable consulting‑led environment.
• Proven ability to independently lead complex consulting engagements and advise senior clients.
• Demonstrated track record in business development, proposal leadership and commercial project management.
• Deep expertise in sustainable finance, climate finance, blended finance, investment strategy or related areas.
• Strong understanding of African financial institutions, development finance institutions and capital providers.
• Extensive hands‑on experience across sub‑Saharan Africa, especially Kenya and East Africa, with established networks among senior government and financial stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative leadership style.
• Entrepreneurial mindset motivated to grow a regional business and develop high‑performing teams.
