Teacher Librarian

About the role

The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi Junior School is seeking a Teacher Librarian to lead a vibrant, inclusive library that supports the International Baccalaureate curriculum. The role blends library management with teaching, fostering research skills and a love of reading among students.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an engaging, well‑organized library collection aligned with the IB curriculum.
• Oversee cataloguing, classification, inventory control, and resource maintenance.
• Manage the library budget, plan acquisitions, and ensure timely procurement of materials.
• Teach information literacy, research methods, and reading programmes to students.
• Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into classroom instruction.
• Promote academic honesty, copyright awareness, and ethical use of information.
• Engage students, parents, and staff in library activities and reading initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records of library assets and textbook distribution.

Required profile

• Degree in Library and Information Science with a teaching qualification.
• Minimum three years of experience teaching and/or managing a school library, preferably in an IB or international setting.
• Registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
• Strong knowledge of information literacy, research methods, and academic integrity.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience in cataloguing, classification, and library systems management.
• Ability to design and deliver engaging library lessons.
