Technical Advisor – Technology Transfer for Better Health in Africa

About the role

The Technical Advisor will co‑create and drive the “Technology Transfer for Better Health in Africa” initiative from Nairobi, supporting planning, budgeting, contracts and risk management while leading multi‑stakeholder pilots that overcome regulatory, infrastructural and financial barriers to scaling data‑driven health technologies across Sub‑Saharan Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Co‑design and implement a Kenya‑based GIZ standalone measure to promote private‑sector collaboration on data‑driven health technologies.
• Manage technical and administrative aspects, including budget, contracts, risk, team leadership, monitoring and evaluation.
• Build and sustain a network of African and European start‑ups, companies and investors; moderate dialogues with authorities and ecosystem partners.
• Steer multisector alliances, develop concepts to address regulatory and infrastructural frameworks, and support pilot implementation in Kenya and Ghana.
• Represent the initiative at regional and international events, draft reports, presentations and communication materials.

Required profile

• University degree in economics, business, innovation management or related field.
• Many years of professional experience in digitalisation, private‑sector collaboration and project implementation.
• Proven experience with investment and scaling logic of start‑ups/VCs in the African tech ecosystem, especially Kenya.
• Experience in digital health/HealthTech, including data governance, interoperability and regulation in Africa.
• Knowledge of Kenya’s digital health systems; familiarity with Ghana is an asset.

Required skills

• Strong stakeholder management and conceptual skills.
• Excellent communication in business‑fluent English; German or French advantageous.
