Universal Banker – Islamic Banking

About the role

The Universal Banker will drive Islamic banking growth for the Westlands branch, delivering new business and expanding wallet share while ensuring excellent customer experience and strict compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Implement branch‑level Islamic banking strategies, manage portfolio risk and collaborate with sales, asset finance, CIB and bancassurance teams to maximise cross‑selling.
• Conduct market intelligence, product reviews and develop branch sales plans, marketing initiatives and campaign execution.
• Maintain high standards of KYC/AML, internal controls, operational risk and ensure accurate booking of new business and fee collection.
• Monitor performance against daily targets, manage TAT for onboarding and loan processing, and resolve customer issues promptly.
• Support people development through training needs analysis, succession planning and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Required profile

• Business‑related degree from a recognised university.
• Experience in Islamic banking and familiarity with retail and business banking products.
• Strong understanding of Muslim banking culture and competitor landscape.

Required skills

• Detailed knowledge of Absa retail and business banking product strategy.
• Ability to conduct market intelligence and develop sales strategies.
• Proficiency in KYC, AML and internal control procedures.
