Watsan Mobile Support Specialist (MSS)

About the role

The Watsan Mobile Support Specialist (MSS) is the technical focal point for Water Supply, Hygiene, Sanitation and Vector Control within the Med‑Ops Cell of MSF Ubuntu. The role provides first and second line technical support to country programmes, ensuring interventions are technically sound, context‑appropriate and aligned with MSF standards and strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and report on the implementation of the MSF Ubuntu Logistics & Watsan Strategy 2026‑2028, including performance against KPIs.
• Conduct functional evaluations of Watsan set‑ups, assess suppliers, and develop improvement plans.
• Support logistics teams in design, installation, and supervision of complex Watsan systems and protocols.
• Provide technical training, on‑the‑job coaching and capacity‑building for country staff.
• Develop and update policies, tools, SOPs and contribute to research and innovation in Watsan.
• Participate in emergency/outbreak WASH response and ensure facilities meet gender‑appropriate, privacy and safeguarding standards.

Required profile

• Degree in civil engineering, environmental sciences, environmental health or a related field.
• Experience in designing, implementing and evaluating water supply, sanitation and hygiene projects in humanitarian contexts.
• Ability to work remotely and on‑site, travel to portfolio countries as needed.
• Strong analytical, reporting and capacity‑building skills.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of water supply, hygiene, sanitation and vector control systems.
• Ability to assess and validate local suppliers and contractors against quality standards.
• Experience developing SOPs, tools and training materials for Watsan interventions.
