Accountant - Tier 1 SACCO

About the role

A Tier 1 Deposit-Taking SACCO has retained Skills Global Limited to recruit an Accountant based at its head office in Nairobi. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Accountant performs timely reconciliations, investigates discrepancies, resolves posting errors, maintains accurate reconciliation schedules and supports audit readiness across key financial control accounts. The position is permanent and pensionable.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations of FOSA/BOSA accounts, core banking transactions, M-Pesa/paybill, PesaLink, EFT/RTGS and other payment channels.
• Investigate and resolve reconciliation breaks, unallocated funds, out-of-balance conditions and posting errors through follow-up and corrective entries.
• Liaise with internal departments, vendors, members and payment service providers on transactional disputes and outstanding items.
• Prepare reconciliation summaries, month-end close reports and audit-ready documentation for the Finance team and external auditors.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial data and flag recurring discrepancies or control weaknesses to the Head of Finance.
• Support internal and external audit cycles with organized reconciliation schedules and supporting evidence.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce (Accounts option) or a related field from a recognized institution.
• CPA(K) in good standing.
• At least three years of hands-on experience in bookkeeping, general ledger accounting or high-volume financial reconciliation, preferably in a similar role.
• Attention to detail, numerical accuracy and strong organizational and communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle, and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, general ledger principles and financial reconciliation best practices.
• Experience in a SACCO or regulated financial institution is preferred.
