Accounts Assistant – General Accounts (M/F)

About the role

AGL (Africa Global Logistics), a multimodal logistics operator (port, logistics, maritime and rail) in Africa and part of the MSC Group, is hiring an Accounts Assistant for its Mombasa office. The role ensures the integrity and accuracy of the company's financial records through accounting, taxation, reconciliations, statutory compliance and financial controls, while supporting timely financial reporting and informed business decisions. It is a full-time position under a fixed-term contract.

Key responsibilities

• Tax compliance and statutory reporting: prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, withholding tax and other statutory returns on time, monitor tax law changes, liaise with tax authorities and support tax audits.
• Accounting accuracy: review supplier vouchers and transactions for correct coding, verify entries against approved documentation, and check invoices and payment requests against the approval matrix.
• Reconciliations: perform monthly bank reconciliations, reconcile general ledger accounts, review prepaid expenses, accruals and standing charges, and resolve discrepancies within agreed timelines.
• Financial controls and compliance: follow internal financial policies and delegation limits, support internal and external audits, and safeguard company assets.
• Intercompany and customer accounts: reconcile intercompany accounts, review customer accounts and resolve outstanding balances and discrepancies.
• Reporting and improvement: support month-end and year-end closing, prepare periodic reports for management, recommend process improvements and take part in finance projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
• CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent professional qualification is an added advantage.
• Strong understanding of Kenyan tax legislation and financial reporting requirements.

Required skills

• Experience using ERP systems, preferably SAP.
• Statutory tax filing and general ledger maintenance.
