Area Coordinator – Border Security Programme

About the role

The Border Security Programme (BSP) Area Coordinator leads field operations, partner coordination and project implementation in the assigned area, reporting to the Kenya Country Lead.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee all BSP partner activities, ensuring they are sequenced, complementary and aligned with the programme workplan.
• Develop and update the area workplan quarterly and chair regular coordination meetings with partners.
• Track progress, maintain the risk register and report on implementation, flagging delays or gaps.
• Monitor partner delivery, verify activities and recommend milestone payments or corrective actions.
• Serve as primary liaison with county and national government offices, briefing them on progress and organising joint field visits.
• Work with finance, logistics, procurement, HR and security teams to ensure operational support meets field needs.
• Support MEL activities by ensuring data collection and feeding information into adaptive management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Programme Management, Development Studies, Migration, Security, or related field.
• At least five years of professional experience in multi‑sectoral programmes, including security, governance and policing.
• Strong managerial, coordination and decision‑making skills with experience in complex programme environments.
• Proven ability to work with host governments, INGOs and national NGOs at sub‑national level.
• Excellent organizational and project management abilities, detail‑oriented and proactive.
