Area Operations Officer – Murang'a

About the role

The Area Operations Officer will oversee site operations in the Murang'a region, ensuring compliance with Food For Education's SOPs, food safety policies, and operational standards. You will act as the bridge between the service centre and field sites, supporting kitchen staff and managing resources.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct structured audits of sites to verify compliance with SOPs, food safety policies, and operational standards.
• Train kitchen staff on SOPs, communicate policy updates, and ensure sites have necessary stock, PPE, equipment, and supplies.
• Validate stock takes twice a month at each site and drive timely procurement (target 90% orders submitted on time).
• Monitor cost‑per‑meal variance, support billing processes, and surface cost concerns and opportunities.
• Track, synthesize, and report performance trends; own yield variance analysis and recommend corrective actions.
• Assess site capacity utilization and provide intelligence to management.
• Build and maintain relationships with field teams, school leadership, and stakeholders; coordinate site visits for staff and donors.
• Report and escalate facility maintenance issues to ensure 100% visibility.

Required profile

• Experience in operations, field management, or program delivery, preferably in food systems, health, or service organizations.
• Comfortable spending most of the workday in the field rather than at a desk.
• Strong analytical ability to read data, spot trends, and explain implications.
• High standards for quality and proactive problem escalation.
• Excellent relationship‑building skills with community stakeholders, local officials, and school leaders.
