Assistant Engineering Manager

About the role

The Assistant Engineering Manager supports the Engineering Manager in overseeing all engineering activities, ensuring optimal resource utilization, minimal machine downtime, and compliance with industry certifications. This role coordinates daily planning, liaises with production, and drives continuous improvement across plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, plan and control resource utilization to meet performance targets at optimal cost.
• Lead daily planning meetings with the engineering team and coordinate with production for uninterrupted plant operation.
• Develop and enforce policies, standards and procedures for engineering work in factories and estates.
• Oversee material acquisition logistics in partnership with procurement, stores and fleet.
• Maintain accurate utility and maintenance records and ensure proper operation of water treatment plants and water lines.
• Coordinate with external service providers such as KPLC to ensure smooth factory operations.
• Prepare and implement annual budgets and support statutory audits (ISO 22000, Rainforest Alliance, energy, boiler inspections).
• Drive new projects, create detailed plans, and integrate technical activities.
• Participate in recruitment, training, performance evaluation and disciplinary actions for engineering staff.
• Present proposals, reports and findings to senior management and develop lasting solutions for recurring machine and process issues.

Required profile

• Proven experience in engineering management, preferably supervising electrical and mechanical teams.
• Strong understanding of ISO 22000 and Rainforest Alliance certification requirements.
• Ability to manage budgets, resources and cross‑functional projects.
• Effective communication skills for interaction with senior management and external partners.
