Assistant Underwriter

About the role

The Assistant Underwriter will support the acquisition and onboarding of Group Life business by preparing quotations, analysing risk information and applying approved pricing and underwriting guidelines. The role also assists with reinsurance requirements, KYC/AML compliance and smooth onboarding of new business.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare accurate Group Life quotations applying pricing models, underwriting guidelines and reinsurance treaty requirements.
• Review member data, benefits and claims experience to support appropriate pricing.
• Engage actuarial and underwriting leadership on pricing exceptions and obtain approvals.
• Ensure compliance with reinsurance arrangements, free cover limits and facultative requirements.
• Coordinate new‑business onboarding, conduct KYC/AML screening and maintain complete files.
• Conduct member education, client presentations and prepare performance reports.

Required profile

• Degree in Actuarial Science, BCom Insurance or Statistics (or progress in a Diploma in Insurance).
• Minimum 4 years’ experience handling Group Life schemes.
• Basic knowledge of IRA regulations, strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Technology‑oriented with interest in emerging technologies such as AI and ML.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
