Associate Legal Officer

About the role

The Associate Legal Officer will provide comprehensive legal, litigation, security documentation, recovery, compliance and corporate development support to I&M Bank, ensuring proper documentation, regulatory compliance and mitigation of legal risks.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate preparation, review, registration and maintenance of the bank’s security documentation and related registers.
• Support management of litigation by and against the bank, liaising with external advocates and ensuring compliance with court and regulatory orders.
• Assist in recovery of non‑performing accounts, issuing demands, statutory notices and preparing recovery reports.
• Coordinate legal processes for realisation of securities through public auction, private treaty and other recovery mechanisms.
• Support preparation, review and administration of leases for bank‑owned and leased premises.
• Conduct legal research and draft legal opinions, briefing notes and advice on banking, commercial, employment and probate matters.
• Assist with statutory and regulatory compliance, corporate governance filings and monitoring legislative developments.
• Review and administer commercial agreements, support new product and digital initiatives, and manage legal records and contracts.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
• Valid practising certificate and membership of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
• 3–4 years of relevant experience in legal practice, banking law, litigation support, recoveries and security documentation.
