Battery End of Life Consultant

About the role

The Sustainable Mobility Unit is seeking a Battery End of Life Consultant to lead a comprehensive assessment that will shape a regional hub‑and‑spoke model for the collection, consolidation, and transboundary shipment of end‑of‑life electric vehicle batteries across Caribbean Island Countries.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare a detailed assessment report covering stock‑take of battery imports, exports, and EV registrations.
• Analyse current battery waste flows, project future volumes, and review existing disposal and export practices.
• Evaluate infrastructure readiness, including interim storage, collection systems, and transport capabilities at potential hub locations.
• Map existing shipping routes, logistics providers, aggregation opportunities, and safety requirements for cross‑border shipments.
• Identify institutional gaps, regulatory, technical and logistical barriers affecting the hub‑and‑spoke model.
• Map key stakeholders such as Basel Focal Points, customs authorities, waste operators, and shipping companies, outlining their potential roles.

Required profile

• Ability to produce comprehensive assessment reports and conduct data‑driven analyses.
• Experience or knowledge in battery waste management, logistics, or sustainable mobility contexts.
• Familiarity with stakeholder mapping and regulatory environments related to hazardous waste.
