Business Development Manager – Transactional Practices

About the role

The Business Development Manager will support Arnold & Porter’s premier transactional practices, including Bankruptcy & Restructuring, Tax, Private Client Services, Project Finance, Sovereign Finance, and Syndicated & Leveraged Finance. Based in New York, the role partners with practice leaders and attorneys to design and execute growth strategies, drive client engagement, and raise the market profile of the practices.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with practice chairs to develop and implement business development plans for transactional groups.
• Identify market trends, cross‑selling opportunities, and new client prospects across industry sectors.
• Lead the creation of pitches, proposals, RFP responses and coach attorneys for client presentations.
• Oversee practice marketing materials, league tables, and client‑facing collateral.
• Coordinate webinars, client events, thought‑leadership initiatives and legal directory submissions.
• Support lateral partner integration through targeted client planning.
• Manage practice budgets, track ROI of business development initiatives and maintain CRM data.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development or client development within professional services, preferably a law firm.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to translate data into actionable strategies.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of influencing senior attorneys.
• Ability to work collaboratively across marketing, communications, events and business intelligence teams.
