Chief Operations Officer

About the role

The Chief Operations Officer will provide strategic and operational leadership across underwriting, claims and legal functions for a leading general insurance company in Kenya. This senior role reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for translating strategy into measurable operational results.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with company objectives, ensuring coordination with finance, HR, risk and compliance.
• Oversee underwriting, claims and legal functions to ensure quality risk selection, timely claim settlement, regulatory compliance and fraud prevention.
• Establish and monitor KPIs, operational dashboards and continuous improvement initiatives, driving efficiency, cost optimisation and digital transformation.
• Manage operational budgets, approve expenditures within delegated limits and support business growth through market intelligence and innovation.
• Lead and develop high‑performing operational teams, fostering a culture of accountability, risk awareness and customer‑centric service.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Insurance or a related field.
• Diploma in Insurance (ACII/IIK) and a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
• 8‑10 years of experience in insurance operations within a general insurance environment.
• Proven track record in strategic leadership, operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
