Communication Support Internship

About the role

The Communication Support Intern will assist UNEP’s Communication Division in Nairobi with a variety of communication activities linked to flagship events such as World Environment Day, Champions of the Earth, and the UN Environment Assembly. The role provides practical exposure to drafting materials, coordinating partners, and supporting public‑advocacy campaigns.

Key responsibilities

• Develop communication materials including meeting notes, email drafts, background papers, social‑media content and digital analyses.
• Support coordination across the Communication Division and with other UNEP departments, tracking actions and sharing information.
• Assist partnerships for World Environment Day and Champions of the Earth by handling inquiries, scheduling meetings, conducting research and maintaining partner databases.
• Help organise internal and external meetings and events, preparing agendas, scheduling and documenting outcomes.
• Prepare campaign briefings, wrap‑up reports and other communications deliverables, and provide administrative and project‑management support as needed.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or a graduate programme (master’s or Ph.D.).
• Preferred fields of study: Communication, International Affairs, Environment‑related disciplines, Journalism or Development.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French or another UN language is an advantage.
• No prior work experience required.
