Communication Support Internship

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Communication Support Intern to assist its Communication Division in Nairobi. The intern will contribute to key events such as World Environment Day, Champions of the Earth, and the UN Environment Assembly.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in drafting communication materials, including meeting notes, email correspondence, background papers, social media content, and digital analyses.
• Support coordination across the Communication Division and with other departments, tracking actions and sharing information.
• Maintain partner databases, respond to inquiries, schedule meetings, and conduct research for World Environment Day and related initiatives.
• Help organise logistics for internal and external meetings and events, including agenda preparation and documentation.
• Provide administrative, project management, and information‑management support as needed.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or a graduate programme (master’s or Ph.D.).
• Preferred fields of study: Communication, International Affairs, Environment‑related disciplines, Journalism, or Development.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Basic ability to create social media content and conduct digital analyses.
