Cost Manager

About the role

Turner & Townsend is hiring a Cost Manager in Nairobi (Westlands). The role covers estimating, cost planning, procurement, contract administration and cost reporting, with a lead role in interfacing with clients and consultants and, where appropriate, leading a cost management team.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in establishing client requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
• Apply value management techniques at the start of a project, involving Senior Management where necessary.
• Own estimating and cost planning, including presenting cost estimates.
• Manage the procurement process: pre-qualification, enquiries, bills of quantities, analysis, selection and contract preparation.
• Keep abreast of building contracts in use and administer a variety of contracts in line with project objectives and policies.
• Manage post-contract cost variances, change control, contractual claims, cost checking and valuation, and ensure monthly post-contract cost reports are produced and presented to the client.
• Provide advice on contractual claims and support value engineering, risk management and life cycle costing where applicable.
• Negotiate and agree final accounts and drive improvements in forecast and budget accuracy.
• Monitor cost variance and contract cash flow, and collaborate with client and contractor teams on programme performance, cost control and value engineering.
• Lead a cost management team where appropriate, ensure QA/QC procedures are followed, and build professional relationships with clients, colleagues and other parties.

Required profile

• Minimum 4-5 years of progressive experience.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying as a minimum.
• BORAQS registration; RICS membership is an added advantage.
• Proven experience handling multiple projects.

Required skills

• Proficiency in the Cost X application.
• Contract administration and cost reporting.
