Country Lead - Kenya Nature-Based Projects
Green.Earth · Nyahururu
Job description
About the role
Green Earth Group develops nature-based projects such as reforestation, land restoration, biodiversity and sustainable land use, working with local communities and smallholder farmers to generate carbon credits. Its Kenya venture is a complex operation with seven divisions, and the Country Lead is the single point of accountability for the venture's overall performance and alignment with the head office. The role turns the group's mission into a smoothly running operation on the ground.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate all seven divisions so they work as one operation
- Review performance across divisions weekly, resolve obstacles directly or route them to the right team, and settle conflicts between divisions
- Approve resource allocations, budgets and hiring decisions within your authority, and stop activities that risk the mission, people or compliance
- Report clearly and honestly to head office, escalate decisions outside your authority, and translate strategy into operational priorities for division heads
- Build and develop strong division heads
- Build and scale an outgrower system, own farmer network performance, and set up onboarding, training and monitoring processes
- Lead local field teams and implementation partners, ensure consistency across geographies, and maintain relationships with farmer groups and community stakeholders
Required profile
- Proven experience leading a country, regional or multi-division operation, ideally in agriculture, agroforestry, carbon, land restoration or rural development
- Track record managing large teams and large smallholder or community networks
- Hands-on operational mindset, with experience managing budgets, resources and cross-functional coordination
- Strong leadership, decision-making and independent problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Kenya's agricultural and community landscape, including government and regulatory stakeholders
- Fluency in English; Swahili is a strong advantage
What we offer
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Growth opportunity and exposure to large-scale international projects
- Direct involvement in land restoration and nature-based projects with smallholder farmers and communities
- A flexible, performance-driven environment with high ownership and low bureaucracy
