About the role
The Criminal Investigator conducts complex, high‑risk investigations to protect wildlife resources and enforce federal conservation laws. This position leads multi‑agency teams, utilizes advanced investigative technologies, and tackles sophisticated criminal activity in both domestic and international wildlife trade.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and execute large‑scale undercover operations to infiltrate criminal networks.
- Develop and manage confidential informants and collect intelligence from multiple sources.
- Lead multifunctional teams on complex investigations involving violations of federal wildlife statutes.
- Conduct raids, interview witnesses, interrogate suspects, make arrests, and build evidence for prosecution.
- Testify in court, before grand juries, and prepare detailed investigative reports.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with federal, state, local, and foreign enforcement agencies, NGOs, media, and private industry.
- Perform surveillance using aircraft, boats, and motorized vehicles while minimizing risk to self and others.
Required profile
- Ability to meet physical demands such as frequent walking, stooping, climbing, and lifting moderately heavy items.
- Comfort working in both office and outdoor settings, including adverse weather, dust, and noise.
- Willingness to be stationed at any of the listed duty locations across the United States.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building high‑level enforcement partnerships.
