Wildlife Inspector – Federal Law Enforcement

About the role

The Field Senior Wildlife Inspector serves as a frontline enforcement officer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Office of Law Enforcement. Working at assigned ports of entry, the inspector protects wildlife resources by detecting and deterring illegal wildlife trade and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and international regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead interdiction and inspection activities at ports of entry to identify and counter wildlife trafficking.
• Conduct inspections of wildlife shipments and travelers, assess risk, and collaborate with partner agencies.
• Serve as a technical expert and liaison for civil and criminal cases, preparing reports and presentations.
• Deliver training, outreach, and mentorship to inspectors, partners, and the public.
• Perform physical inspections in varied and hazardous environments, handling live animals and animal products safely.

Required profile

• Experience conducting inspections or investigations in a law‑enforcement or regulatory setting.
• Ability to work in physically demanding environments and handle hazardous materials.
• Strong communication skills for coordination with domestic and international partners.
