Driver Mechanic

About the role

A full-time Driver Mechanic position based in Juja, Kenya, combining professional driving with practical mechanical work. The driver ensures products are transported safely and delivered on time while keeping assigned vehicles in good mechanical condition through routine inspections, preventive maintenance and minor repairs. Salary is KES 35,000 to 50,000 per month depending on qualifications, experience and demonstrated mechanical competence.

Key responsibilities

• Drive company trucks safely in line with Kenyan traffic laws and company policy, delivering goods accurately and on schedule along assigned routes.
• Check delivery quantities against invoices and delivery notes, obtain customer acknowledgements and secure goods properly during loading.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, report accidents and incidents, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Diagnose and repair minor mechanical faults and carry out preventive maintenance such as oil and coolant checks, brake and tyre inspection, battery maintenance and belt adjustments.
• Coordinate major repairs with approved garages and monitor service schedules and mileage.
• Keep the vehicle clean, ensure insurance, inspection certificates, road licence, fire extinguisher, reflective triangles and first aid kit are current, and promote economical driving.
• Follow safety procedures, never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and keep company information confidential.
• Complete daily inspection checklists, mileage logs, fuel receipts and accountability reports, and record repairs and incidents.

Required profile

• KCSE certificate or equivalent.
• Valid Kenyan Class BCE driving licence (mandatory).
• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
• Defensive driving certificate (added advantage).
• Automotive mechanics certification (Grade III/II/I, artisan certificate, diploma or equivalent) highly desirable.
• Minimum 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably with medium and heavy commercial vehicles.
• Experience in FMCG or beverage distribution highly preferred.
