Driver – RMNCH Project
Christian Health Association of Kenya · Nairobi
Job description
About the role
The Christian Health Association of Kenya is looking for a driver for its RMNCH (reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health) programme, based in the transport and procurement function in Westlands, Nairobi. The driver takes project teams, health commodities, training materials and equipment to health facilities and community sites, often over long distances and demanding terrain, while keeping the assigned vehicle compliant, roadworthy and properly documented.
Key responsibilities
- Drive project staff and other authorised personnel on official assignments, including long-distance journeys and multi-day field trips, with a focus on safety, punctuality and courtesy.
- Plan routes in advance, give a short safety briefing before departure and follow traffic laws, insurance conditions and internal transport policies.
- Transport health commodities, supplies, training materials and equipment, loading and securing them so they arrive intact and on time.
- Keep the vehicle clean, fuelled and serviced, carry out routine inspections and coordinate minor repairs.
- Maintain vehicle compliance: valid insurance and inspection certificates, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and emergency equipment on board.
- Keep transport documents accurate and current: trip logs, fuel and mileage returns, maintenance records and incident or accident reports.
- Support the Procurement Manager on fleet matters: sourcing repair quotations, liaising with approved garages and suppliers and following up on parts and delivery.
- Provide logistics for trainings, outreaches, supervision visits and assessments, assist passengers with boarding and alighting, and give basic first aid and call emergency services in emergencies.
- Take brief notes or minutes, take basic photos of events and help coordinate dispatch and courier of correspondence and documents.
Required profile
- Minimum KCSE or equivalent high school certificate.
- Valid Class BCE driver's licence with a current certificate of good conduct; a valid AA driving certificate is an added advantage.
- At least five years of proven professional driving experience, ideally in an NGO or donor-funded project environment.
- Ability to drive manual and 4WD vehicles across varied Kenyan terrain and long-distance routes.
- Strong discretion and professionalism, and a genuine commitment to Christian values within a faith-based environment.
Required skills
- Basic working knowledge of vehicle mechanics and routine maintenance; a first aid certificate is an advantage.
- Computer literacy and basic photography skills.
