About the role
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is seeking a qualified researcher to join its Human Development Theme. Based in Nairobi, the role focuses on the intersection of education, technology and digital innovation, contributing to evidence‑informed policy and practice across sub‑Saharan Africa.
Key responsibilities
- Strengthen APHRC’s knowledge base on the use and impact of technology in African basic education, including responsible AI deployment.
- Lead or co‑lead rigorous research studies and evaluations of digital and other educational technologies.
- Contribute to project management, policy engagement and strategic planning, ensuring research findings translate into actionable recommendations.
- Secure funding through proposal development and maintain partnerships with local and international stakeholders.
- Assess efficacy, equity and ethical implications of digital solutions in education.
- Occasionally travel to project sites within sub‑Saharan Africa.
Required profile
- Advanced degree in education, technology, public health, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience conducting research on digital education solutions.
- Strong track record of publishing research and influencing policy.
- Ability to manage projects, engage with policymakers and build collaborative networks.
- Commitment to ethical, equitable and responsible use of AI and technology in education.
