Emergency Officer

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an Emergency Officer to support emergency response and disaster risk reduction activities in Kakuma. You will work closely with the Emergency Manager to assess needs, implement interventions, and ensure timely, accountable delivery of aid in line with IRC policies and donor requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Support rapid needs assessments, baseline surveys and field assessments to identify humanitarian priorities.
• Assist in developing work plans, budgets, technical specifications and standard operating procedures for emergency projects.
• Coordinate and monitor the implementation of emergency interventions, ensuring quality, budget compliance and beneficiary participation.
• Facilitate procurement processes by providing technical inputs, verifying field deliveries and tracking supplies.
• Promote compliance with IRC policies, humanitarian principles and donor regulations throughout project cycles.
• Collect and compile monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) data for reporting.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in humanitarian emergency response or disaster risk reduction.
• Strong analytical skills for data collection, needs assessment and reporting.
• Ability to work collaboratively with communities, local authorities and partner organizations.
• Commitment to gender equity, inclusion and protection principles.
