About the role
The United Nations Environment Programme is seeking an Environmental Law Specialist to provide technical legal advice to the Government of Panama. The role focuses on implementing the Rio Conventions and the Nature Pledge by developing draft legal and institutional instruments at the national level.
Key responsibilities
- Advise Panamanian authorities on the application of the Rio Conventions and the Nature Pledge.
- Draft the administrative instrument for official adoption (Component A).
- Develop the CONACLABIT governance model and its operating protocol (Component B).
- Prepare the Nature Pledge governance regulations (Component C).
- Ensure the legal framework meets the requirements to activate Phase I of the Nature Pledge roadmap.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in law, preferably with specialization in environmental or international law.
- Proven experience in drafting legal instruments and advising governments on environmental agreements.
- Familiarity with the Rio Conventions, the Nature Pledge, and related governance structures.
