Field Station Attendant

About the role

The Field Station Attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of the station’s grounds and facilities. Working independently on‑site, you will support daily maintenance activities and act as the primary liaison for security and research teams.

Key responsibilities

• Mow and trim grassed areas using powered strimmers, mowers and related equipment.
• Clean and maintain station grounds, facilities and remove waste generated from maintenance work.
• Coordinate security operations, escalating any critical issues for prompt resolution.
• Record all preventive and routine maintenance activities, equipment usage and inspections.
• Serve as the focal point and icipe representative at the station, inspecting records and escalating repair needs.
• Occasionally monitor and report on field research trials, providing support as required.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in grounds maintenance, facilities support, property or field station management, or security coordination.
• Strong record‑keeping and organisational abilities.
• Ability to work without direct supervision.
• Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Operation of mowing and trimming equipment (e.g., powered strimmers, mowers).
