Financial Controller

About the role

The Financial Controller leads financial strategy and internal controls and reports to the Chief Executive Officer on the company's financial and commercial systems and operations. The role covers financial operations, policies and processes, risk management, treasury, regulatory reporting, internal controls, budgeting and forecasting, and is a full-time management position in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Internal controls: review and develop procedures for reporting integrity, inventory controls, sub-ledger balancing, monthly bank reconciliations and audit coordination
• Cash flow: prepare 12-month rolling cash forecasts, monitor liquidity and coordinate working capital initiatives
• Profitability and margin: monthly profitability analysis, gross margin improvement plans, cost analysis and product/customer profitability reports
• Product costing and capital expenditure: review product costings, prepare investment business cases and coordinate the capex budget
• Inventory and debtors: propose inventory controls, ageing analysis and stock write-offs, and coordinate debt collection and bad debt reporting
• Month-end reporting: set month-end procedures, reconcile balance sheet accounts, approve entries and provisions and present management accounts on time
• Budgeting and forecasting: compile budgets, financial statements and regular forecasts
• Fixed assets: maintain the register, process depreciation, keep deferred tax records and lead annual asset verification and impairment exercises
• Commercial and logistics: lead procurement, approve purchase orders, import orders, LCs and freight invoices, and track shipments
• Statutory compliance: liaise with headquarters to deliver tax, VAT and other statutory requirements on time
• Team leadership: supervise, coach and train finance staff, define performance objectives and run appraisals

Required profile

• Relevant degree or CA/ACCA/CIMA certification
• 10+ years of experience leading finance in a large organization
• ERP knowledge
