General Manager, Compliance Testing

About the role

Equity Bank is seeking a General Manager to lead its independent, risk‑based compliance testing programme. The role ensures control effectiveness, timely remediation, and actionable insights across all bank functions, supporting a robust regulatory environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement a risk‑based compliance testing programme aligned with the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Develop and approve the Annual Testing Plan, ensuring comprehensive coverage of branches and head‑office functions based on risk‑driven prioritisation.
• Direct onsite and offsite testing activities, maintaining scope, timelines, methodologies and quality standards.
• Provide independent assurance on technical compliance, control design adequacy and operating effectiveness.
• Apply standardized scoring methodologies and align outcomes with risk appetite thresholds.
• Review and approve testing reports, delivering clear insights, root‑cause analysis and executive‑level summaries.
• Monitor service level agreements for testing execution, reporting and remediation, escalating delays as needed.
• Escalate material findings, high‑risk issues and regulatory breaches in line with governance frameworks.
• Oversee end‑to‑end issue management, from identification through remediation and sustainability monitoring.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading compliance testing or assurance programmes within a banking or financial services environment.
• Strong understanding of regulatory expectations, risk management frameworks and internal control standards.
• Proven ability to manage large‑scale testing projects, coordinate cross‑functional teams and communicate findings to senior leadership.
