General Manager - Corporate Services

About the role

Kenya Railways, a government-owned enterprise, is recruiting a General Manager - Corporate Services based in Nairobi (Westlands). The post reports to the Managing Director and is a five-year contract renewable once, subject to retirement age and satisfactory performance.

Key responsibilities

• Spearhead policies, plans and strategies in human resources, insurance, administration and ICT, and lead talent management, employee relations, welfare and occupational health and safety.
• Develop organizational structure, business processes, succession and leadership programmes, and strategies for innovation and automation.
• Manage the department's budget, procurement and assets disposal plans, and oversee risk management, internal controls, business continuity and corporate governance.
• Oversee fleet management, asset management, insurance coordination, property management, cleaning, garbage collection and pest control.
• Coordinate staff performance management, training and development, and manage rewards and sanctions.
• Prepare board papers, coordinate the annual work plan and budget, and provide monthly and quarterly reports to management.

Required profile

• Master's degree in a relevant field, or a Bachelor's degree in commerce, business administration, public administration, human resource management, ICT, social sciences or an equivalent qualification.
• Relevant professional qualification and membership in a professional body.
• Certificate in Strategic Leadership of at least four weeks and a valid practicing certificate.
• At least 15 years of experience, five of them in a senior management position in a state corporation or comparable public or private organization.
