Head of Business Development - Logistics

About the role

Career Directions Limited (CDL) is hiring a Head of Business Development for its logistics function in Nairobi. The role reports to the Commercial Manager and leads the business development team, developing commercial strategies and building a strong sales pipeline to grow clients' business across logistics, freight forwarding, warehousing and supply chain solutions. It is a permanent, pensionable position open to Kenyan nationals only.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the business development strategy and identify new opportunities across logistics, freight forwarding, warehousing and value-added supply chain solutions.
• Build and manage a healthy sales pipeline to meet revenue and profitability targets, and lead commercial negotiations, tenders and strategic partnerships.
• Lead, coach and develop the business development team, set and monitor KPIs and foster a high-performance culture.
• Grow existing accounts through cross-selling and solution-based selling, and build strategic customer relationships.
• Monitor market trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities.
• Work with Operations, Finance, Customer Service and Marketing on service delivery, CRM usage, sales forecasting and performance reporting.

Required profile

• 8-12 years of experience in business development or commercial leadership within logistics, freight forwarding or supply chain.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Logistics, Supply Chain or a related field; a Master's is an added advantage.
• Proven track record of driving sales growth, leading teams and building strategic partnerships.
• Experience in a cross-functional or matrix environment.
