HR Specialist

About the role

GNP Global Business Consultants is looking for an HR Specialist based in Lavington, Nairobi. The specialist builds and runs GNP's own people function, covering hiring, onboarding, payroll coordination, compliance with Kenyan employment law and a fair, well-documented workplace. The role also advises GNP's clients on their HR practices, acting as the lead specialist on people matters, with client meetings and site visits (travel within Kenya as needed).

Key responsibilities

• Run end-to-end recruitment: advert drafting, CV screening, interview scheduling, reference and background checks, and offer letters and contracts.
• Onboard new staff: contracts, statutory documents and the 90-day probation process, including review meetings and confirmation letters.
• Maintain employee records, leave balances and attendance; prepare monthly payroll inputs and work with Finance on salary, PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and Affordable Housing Levy deductions and filings.
• Administer benefits such as medical cover enrolment and paid leave.
• Draft and maintain HR policies and the staff handbook in line with the Employment Act, 2007, and handle employee relations, grievances, warnings and exits.
• Run performance reviews, track the annual performance bonus, coordinate staff training and development, and report monthly to the Head of Business Development on headcount, hiring pipeline, turnover and compliance.
• Advise clients on recruitment strategy, job design, onboarding and probation; review or draft client employment contracts, HR policies and handbooks.
• Advise clients on payroll compliance and statutory deductions, run HR health checks and audits, and train client managers and staff.
• Support business development by spotting client needs, writing proposals and quotes, and delivering HR training sessions in person and online.
• Use HR data and AI tools responsibly, building reusable templates, toolkits and training materials for GNP's service offering.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or a related field.
• 5+ years of HR experience, including at least 2 years leading an HR function or advising organizations on HR matters.
• Professional certification (IHRM Kenya or equivalent) is an advantage.
• Working knowledge of the Employment Act, 2007 and Kenyan statutory deductions.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational ability, integrity with confidential information and comfort working in a small team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Excel/Sheets and HR or payroll software.
• Client-facing consulting skills: assessing needs, presenting recommendations and writing advisory reports.
