Humanitarian Access, Safety & Security Advisor

About the role

The Humanitarian Access, Safety & Security Advisor will develop access strategies, conduct risk assessments and advise teams on safety protocols to ensure secure humanitarian operations in volatile environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver scenario‑development workshops and support frontline teams in tracking crisis indicators.
• Assist country leadership in creating and implementing access and acceptance strategies aligned with IRC policy and international humanitarian law.
• Maintain networks with humanitarian access and security staff, represent IRC in global fora, and keep abreast of best practices.
• Support safety and security teams to identify, analyse and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with IRC security standards.
• Provide technical support for emergency preparedness, incident management and capacity‑building activities.

Required profile

• At least 8 years of experience in non‑profit or NGO humanitarian programmes, with proven success in safety and security management in complex settings.
• Demonstrated expertise in humanitarian access, negotiation, civil‑military coordination and security management.
• Experience facilitating learning for diverse audiences and developing tools or guidance materials.

Required skills

• Knowledge of legal and normative frameworks for humanitarian action and application of humanitarian principles.
• Familiarity with humanitarian access and acceptance models, security risk management and gender‑sensitive security approaches.
