Hydrology Advisor

About the role

The Hydrology Advisor will report to the Senior Portfolio Manager and provide expert technical guidance on water resources, climate‑change adaptation and hydrological modelling. Working remotely, the specialist will help climate‑proof infrastructure designs and support regional water‑security strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist advice and strategic design support across hydrology, water resources and climate‑adaptation sectors, ensuring methodologies are climate‑resilient and meet UNOPS standards.
• Lead data collection, field verification and hydro‑meteorological modelling, and produce accurate technical reports, risk logs and issue briefs.
• Support multidisciplinary collaboration by sharing knowledge on macro‑ and micro‑level assessments, downscaling of GCMs/RCMs, distributed modelling for arid lands, early‑warning systems, Nature‑Based Solutions and Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with at least 7 years of experience in hydrology, water resources or climate‑change adaptation.
• Proven ability to work independently in a remote setting and engage with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience in decision‑support systems for water allocation.
