Individuals & Societies Part‑Time Teacher – Geography & History

About the role

The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi – Senior School is seeking a Part‑Time Individuals & Societies (Humanities) Teacher to deliver Geography and History within the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) and potentially the Diploma Programme (DP). The role focuses on inquiry‑driven instruction that cultivates critical thinking, global awareness and interdisciplinary understanding.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high‑quality IB MYP (and DP where applicable) lessons in Geography and/or History.
• Design inquiry‑based learning experiences aligned with IB frameworks, including Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.
• Develop schemes of work, unit plans and assessments that meet IB standards.
• Foster critical thinking, research, source analysis and evaluation skills.
• Integrate local, regional and global perspectives to enhance conceptual understanding.
• Monitor student progress, assess using IB criteria and provide timely feedback.
• Support development of written, oral and presentation skills.
• Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary units and curriculum development.
• Promote academic honesty and uphold IB Learner Profile attributes.
• Participate in co‑curricular activities, mentorship and school events.
• Contribute to departmental planning, curriculum review and continuous improvement.
• Create an inclusive learning environment for diverse student needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Geography, History, Social Sciences).
• Experience teaching within the IB framework (MYP and/or DP) is preferred.
• Commitment to fostering international‑mindedness and holistic student development.
