Inventory Officer – Surgical Stores

About the role

Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Nairobi is hiring a full-time, on-site Inventory Officer (middle level) for its procurement function. The officer monitors stock levels, receives and issues supplies, keeps accurate inventory records, runs stock counts and ensures timely replenishment of hospital supplies.

Key responsibilities

• Order surgical and pharmaceutical supplies according to scheduled guidelines.
• Receive materials from vendors against requisitions and check them for quality, quantity, specification, condition and expiry date.
• Deliver received invoices to the Accounts department for payment.
• Follow up on stock-outs with procurement and escalate as needed.
• Categorize materials by product line and stock them in the right places.
• Issue, monitor and record surgical and pharmaceutical materials used in theatres.
• Monitor expiries, breakages and stock movements, and maintain accurate stock records and files.
• Carry out periodic inventory counts, report findings and take part in stock take exercises.
• Monitor fridge temperatures daily and report inconsistencies; take action to preserve materials and report breakages and expiries.
• Ensure safety precautions are followed for personnel and materials in the store.

Required profile

• Diploma in Procurement and Supply Chain Management.
• At least three years of relevant work experience, including at least one year in a hospital setting within the surgical stores/division.
• Ability to analyze procurement parameters and a high level of accuracy.
• Integrity and effective verbal and written communication skills to report findings.
