Islamic Banking Banker – Coast Branch

About the role

Absa is hiring an Islamic Banking Banker for its Coast branch. The role drives Islamic Banking business growth, profitability and customer experience while observing compliance and control requirements. It is split into three main areas: business growth (60%), internal controls and risk management (10%) and customer experience (20%).

Key responsibilities

• Implement Islamic Banking strategic initiatives to increase new business and wallet share, and manage portfolio risks in line with the bank's appetite.
• Collaborate with Direct Sales, Asset Finance, CIB and Bancassurance on cross-selling and product development, and contribute to the branch sales strategy.
• Plan and run marketing approaches for new business, fund new accounts promptly, and track daily performance against targets.
• Handle customer complaints and queries promptly, maintain service standards and TATs, and keep customer data up to date.
• Ensure KYC and AML compliance, adherence to bank policies, accurate booking of new business and collection of charges, commissions and fees.
• Carry out branch snap checks, manage costs, and co-ordinate branch initiatives with the Branch Manager.
• Support a productive team environment, complete assigned e-learning and training, and manage your own leave.

Required profile

• Business-related degree from a recognised university.
• Experience in Islamic banking.
• Familiarity with banking products such as checking accounts, savings accounts, loans and credit cards.
• Good knowledge of personal and business credit underwriting and portfolio management.

Required skills

• Detailed knowledge of Absa retail and business banking products and of the Muslim banking culture.
• Knowledge of Shariah law, the Shariah Board, Shariah audits and Shariah-compliant financial instruments.
• Understanding of CBK, KBA and KRA regulatory requirements.
• Computerised banking applications and spreadsheets.
• Negotiation and selling skills, and strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
