Islamic Banking Universal Banker - Coast

About the role

Absa is hiring an Islamic Banking Universal Banker for its Nkrumah Road branch in Accra. The role drives Islamic banking business growth, profitability and customer experience while observing compliance and control requirements. It is split into business growth (60%), internal controls and risk management (10%), customer experience (20%) and capacity building and people management (10%).

Key responsibilities

• Implement Islamic banking strategic initiatives to increase new business and wallet share, and manage portfolio risks in line with the bank's appetite.
• Collaborate with Direct Sales, Asset Finance, CIB and Bancassurance on sales initiatives and cross-selling, and contribute to the branch sales strategy.
• Plan and coordinate marketing approaches for new business, monitor performance against targets daily and resolve customer complaints promptly.
• Ensure new accounts are funded at onboarding, meet strict turnaround times, and maintain branch NPS scores.
• Adhere to bank policies, KYC and AML processes, operations risk requirements and branch audit checks, and collect charges, commissions and fees correctly.
• Work with the Branch Manager on branch performance plans, and support training, e-learning and succession planning.

Required profile

• Business-related degree from a recognized university.
• Experience in Islamic banking.
• Familiarity with banking products such as checking accounts, savings accounts, loans and credit cards.
• Good knowledge of personal and business credit underwriting and portfolio management.

Required skills

• Detailed knowledge of Absa retail and business banking products and of Shariah law, the Shariah Board and Shariah audits.
• Knowledge of computerized banking applications and spreadsheets.
• Strong understanding of regulatory reporting and operational requirements (CBK, KBA, KRA).
• International accounting and audit standards, and well-rounded knowledge of Shariah-compliant products and Islamic banking contracts.
