Laboratory Manager – Lead Operations and Business Development

About the role

Mpala Research Centre is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to lead daily laboratory operations, ensure high quality standards, and develop revenue‑generating services for a diverse client base.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day laboratory activities, equipment use and resource allocation.
• Supervise, mentor and evaluate laboratory staff, coordinating training and work planning.
• Maintain laboratory safety, SOPs, quality controls, audits and ISO 17025 compliance.
• Develop and grow fee‑for‑service testing, contract research, training and consultancy offerings.
• Build strategic partnerships, support grant proposals and monitor client satisfaction and revenue performance.
• Prepare operational, quality, financial and performance reports for senior leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Proven experience managing a research, analytical or diagnostic laboratory.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory quality management systems, preferably ISO 17025.
• Experience supervising technical teams and handling equipment and resource management.
• Business development or grant development experience is an advantage.
